This page tracks the market share of AI assistants and search engines by the visits they send to websites, for Vietnam and for the world. The figures come from StatCounter Global Stats, averaged over the three most recent complete months, and are refreshed automatically every day — so the tables below are always the latest data TOS has.
Current period: July–September 2026 average.
Which AI assistant sends the most visits to websites?
In Vietnam, ChatGPT accounts for about 71% of visits arriving from AI chatbots, with Gemini second at roughly 23%. Worldwide the gap is wider: ChatGPT at about 79% against 11% for Gemini.

Search engine market share
Search engine numbers matter for both SEO and GEO, because AI Overview and AI Mode both draw on Google’s index, while Copilot runs on Bing’s. In other words, search ranking is still the foundation under most AI answers.

What these numbers measure — and what they do not

This is where the data is most often misread, so TOS spells it out.
What it measures: among all the visits that travel from an AI chatbot to a website, how much each chatbot contributes. StatCounter reads the referrer of page views across the network of sites carrying its tracking code, then converts that into a share.
What it does not measure: how many people use each platform, how long they spend there, or how much revenue it earns. An assistant with a large user base that rarely links out will look small in this table. More importantly, it cannot count the times someone reads the AI answer and stops there without clicking through — the zero-click behaviour that defines AI search.
Read the tables as a map of referral traffic, not a popularity ranking. For SEO and GEO work they remain the closest available proxy for deciding which platform to prioritise, because they reflect what actually lands on the website.
How to use these numbers well
- Pick the market first, the platform second. The priority order in Vietnam and worldwide differs sharply, especially in where Gemini and Perplexity land.
- Do not drop a small platform that runs on a large index. Copilot’s share is low but it runs on Bing’s index, and Claude takes its web results from Brave Search. Optimising for the underlying index matters more than the surface number.
- Compare trends, not single months. These tables are three-month averages precisely because a single month swings hard.
- Check against your own data. Market figures only tell you where to start; the referral traffic in your own GA4 is the final measure.
Source and how TOS keeps this current
The source is StatCounter Global Stats, using two stat families: “AI Chatbot” (referrals from AI chatbots) and “Search Engine” (referrals from search engines), for Vietnam and worldwide.
An automated job runs daily, reloads the figures, averages the three most recent complete months and rebuilds the tables above. If the source fails, the system keeps the previous data rather than overwriting it with a partial set — so the tables may lag by a few days, but they will not be half-updated.
Frequently asked questions
How often is this page updated?
The system checks the source every day. StatCounter finalises figures monthly, so the values usually shift in the first days of a month, when the month just ended enters the three-month average.
Why do the numbers not add up to exactly 100%?
Each table is a three-month average rounded to two decimals, so the total can drift slightly. Some very small platforms are also grouped into “Other”.
Why is Meta AI missing from the tables?
StatCounter does not yet break out visits travelling from Meta AI to websites, so the platform does not appear in the AI Chatbot family despite its very large user base. That is a limit of the data source, not a sign that Meta AI does not matter.
Does a high share mean a platform will cite my website?
No. Share only tells you which platform currently sends the most traffic, and therefore where to invest first. Whether a site gets cited depends on the site’s own readiness: letting the bots read it, structuring content clearly, publishing structured data and showing E-E-A-T signals.
To see where your website stands against those conditions, run the free TOS AI Visibility checker — it reads your site’s public signals and suggests a priority order across AI platforms based on the very numbers on this page.
